Suicide Lies: Demo Review By Ninja

Although Metal is a common occurrence the world over, it has been proven time and again that my home soil of the Pacific Northwest is a particularly fertile ground for music and wild enough still to produce varietal evolution in the growth of the genre. Case in point, the band Suicide Lies from Cashmere, Washington. Despite having been together for only a short time, it's clear from this demo that time has no effect on the passion to play, being a solid creation based on a combination of talent and emotion based on the history of the members of the band- Brian Cahoon (guitar), Erik Ellis (bass), Jeff Knemeyer (vox), Tyler Fortner (drums), Shad Harlan (guitar)- who have all had someone close to them taken away through suicide, prompting the name of the band itself. Starting out, the anger of "Die" calls out The Negative everywhere and forces it to its knees before the reserved strength and well- handled guitar solos of "My Savior" guides you down the path of harnessing your own inner power through positive thought and self- dependence. "Belittled" carries the halfway point, railing against domestic disturbance as "Fear No Evil" hangs close on its heels with an intro like Eric Draven wailing on the rooftops leading into seamless change- ups in speed and vocals throughout, walking you through the fires to the final track "Sorrow", which shines through as a powerful and soul- searching ballad displaying the musical skill that one hopes will carry this band far into the future.

My Own Private Alaska - Amen (Album Review By Ninja)

"You know, I'm fucked- I feel no force in me, you know, at the end of the song...". The feelings of vocalist Matthiew "Milka" Miegeville as expressed at the end of "Anchorage" is what every serious musician should feel at the end of their creation. Along with bandmates Tristan Mocquet decimating the ivories and Yohan Hennequin superhuman on drums, there has been brought to life an album where every song, every song title speaks my life and I am entranced and amazed, one after the other, drowning in my own thoughts and feelings, my own force merging with this entity as I immerse myself in these sonic overtures and I am near to tears through the memories brought to the surfaces of my many seas at the call of the music, sounds and words that mirror the development of my own psyche; Hard, angry and slightly mystical in its discordance, this is not "Experimental"- this is a deliberate communication from the universe to all those willing to listen.

Impious: Death Domination (Album Review By Ninja)

If you want to have your soul torn to ribbons at the first note of a new album and have it continue to do so, you would be hard pressed to be disappointed by "Death Domination", the new Metal Blade release from Impious. Bursting at the seams with the most exquisite blackness, you can almost hear the angels begin weeping at the first notes of "Abomination Glorified" and "I Am The King" makes you want to round up your marauders and enslave entire cities. Ripping through "Hate Killing Project", "As Death Lives In Me" and "Irreligious State Of War", the majesty continues and you find yourself wrapped in a comfortable cocoon of top- notch Black Metal the whole time. This is the kind of album that molds you into its own image and won't take no for an answer.

Presenting: THE Ninja!

Welcome, everyone, to the maiden voyage of the S.S. Ninja (blogging on my own)..., aiding the Morgue fleet of destroyers in the murky waters of the mundane world to destroy false hopes and bring Metal to the ailing third- world minds of those who think they don't need the magic it provides. As a rather busy Ninja, I don't often get the news of the world, but you can look to me to provide provocative insights into the music universe (Cuz' if it's one thing a Ninja knows well, it's wailing guitars... and killing). Methinks you no believe me? Observe, and be amazed: As a tribute to Monster's fascination with japan and certain types of vending machines, I acquired a copy of the debut album from The Land Of The Rising Sun's very own Grief Of War, "Worship". In my opinion, worship is what this album deserves because what better way to enhance one's Ninja skills than by listening to Japanese Thrash Metal? With a skillful combination of what seems like every style of thrash I've ever heard and solos like a bloody samurai sword, it's just one whirlwind after another, great for extended swordfight scenes and violent lovemaking. Tracks of note are the title track "Worship", and "Midnight Sun" that makes me miss being a boy back home, where that's actually a true occurence. Anyway, hope everyone enjoyed my tribute to Michael Jackson and were as creeped out as everyone in the booth. If you missed it, I'm sorry but you truly missed out.

Morgue Metal this week

This week sees the maniacal return of The MORGUE Radio Show on KWCW! Now that the summer schedule has begun, so has the metal morticians' reign of terror. Monster and Violet caught up on a backlog of request lists which included metal from Cattle Decapitation, Cannibal Corpse, Overkill, Evile, Possessed, Exodus and more. Monster popped out some trivia style questions to fellow his DJs such as, "What is the most outlandish religion," "What is the single most frustrating thing about the government," and "What do you consider the greatest threat to mankind?"
Violet pulled out a couple episodes of Neurotically Yours from Illwill Press in which, Germain has called the fat help hotline and found out that eating in the bathroom is a sign of obesity. No DJ had admitted to this, though Ninja alluded to it and, through more prodding, we uncover a bigger mystery about Ninja and his lover CS...are they brother and sister?!

Meanwhile, on the Radio Free Satan front, Monster plays some insane covers like Slayer's Raining Blood by Malevolent Creation; Dimmu Borgir hitting Accept's Metal Heart; Emperor covering Bathory's A Fine Day to Die; and Sepultura's Troops of Doom as recreated by Dimension Zero.
Next week will see Dark Funeral and Vader among others.

I wanted to stop by and drop the very first update off in our soon-to-be long list of blog updates!

This week on Radio Free Satan's Morgue, I go about committing tribute villainy as I highlight some metal covers that have been put out to commemorate bands of the distant and not-so-distant past! We dug out some Celtic Frost, Crush Efekt, Defleshed, and Anathema.

Last week on KWCW, we executed (on-air) the attack on Ninja's balls! That's right, two weeks ago, we asked that any listener that wants to hear our co-host Ninja get smacked in the sack by the Monster's foot to write in and request it! Naturally, that incited quite the response and, as a result, Ninja got one swift kick for each request. OUCH! Fortunately, Monster's martial arts training gave him the ability to show some restraint which allowed him to not put his Ninjastic friend in the hospital having to explain to nurse Betty why his boys have black eyes!
Oh yeah, we also got some great music in as well from bands like Ensiferum, John 5, Destroy Destroy Destroy, High On Fire, Five Finger Death Punch, and the Evil Elvis, Danzig!

In the future, your radio DJs Monster and Violet plan on bringing you news and updates on the music scene, discuss our favorite metal, and immerse ourselves in more than the music but also the many popular culture media and activities that make the show worth listening to as well as the life of a music enthusiast so much more unique than the hum-drum sheeple in today's society!

For now, an introduction:
The MORGUE Radio Show runs on two stations.

The first and original station to air The MORGUE is none other than the almost famous KWCW 90.5 fm, Walla Walla, Washington's own radio station, serving the citizens of the valley for over 25 years and playing host to many great and not-so-great radio programs. The MORGUE began broadcasting on KWCW in the Summer of 2004, providing heavy metal and hard rock. As the years began stacking up, so did the level of musical intensity of the Morgue's tracklists moving from heavy to downright primal metal!
Today, the live version of The MORGUE still broadcasts every Saturday night at 10pm (PST) and has picked up some hosts along the way. In addition to MONSTER and VIOLET, this Saturday night slice of chaos also sees frequency by fellow regular morticians, Butcher and Ninja along with occasional grave-robbings from CS, Goblin, Chuckles, Ogre, and Blade.

The second station to carry The MORGUE Radio Show is the very diabolical Radio Free Satan! This online presence has sheltered The Morgue since the beginning of 2006. Though not as long as the KWCW version, this episode cuts straight into the meat of the music. With less hosts, comes less banter and more music per pound! This version of The Morgue is also an excellent platform for extreme metal.
